Presention

Individual work and Pairs work


                   I learned about the meaning of CLT, Four dimensions of CLT, The characteristics of CLT, The advantages in teaching according to the CLT, and Disadvantages in teaching according to the CLT from my friend presented.







                 Then I presented about Problems in Teaching and Learning English Language. There are 5 subtitles such as Learners' problems, Problems of teacher, Problems of Environment, solve the problems and Implication in my future. After that my friend and me presented about Factors Affecting about Teaching and Learning. The contents in our project about Learner Factors such as age, ability, attitude, and learning styles etc. Teacher Factors such as ability, attitude, teaching styles, and classroom Management etc. Environment Factors such as materiales, class size, time, and atmosphere etc. Moreover, we talked about how to implication in our class future. Finally, teacher told us about our mistake when we spoke and our writing in powerpoit.


                     I think when I presented and could look at powerpoint and scripts. Then I can spoke fluency more than if I remember!! these are easy for me.


                    I think grammar is so difficult for me to write both on powerpoint and report.


                    I felt happy, glad, and be impressive that teacher tought me and suggested me about my mistake I promiss that I will everything that teacher tought me implication in my future.

 Unit 6
Trends in E.L.T.


              I learned about Sociocultural Theory, Major Trends in the Global ELT Field: A non - Native English - speaking Professional's Perspective and 21st century in ELT. 

               Let's start with Sociocultural Theory is not only learn but student have to interact with other that various social and cultural. It develop students' cognitive. Moreover, new knowledge will happen through interaction by using language as a tool and relevant with culturally contextualised events etc. Next, Key notions are Zone of proximal Development (ZPD) and Scaffolding.

                      ZPD is the knowledge level in each students that unequal so, when student can't to do the task or met the problems the people such as parents teacher or peers that have more knowledge or experience than them help them. That helping call " Scaffolding " Then students got scaffolding from other they can do their task by theirself. Next, topic that I learned Major Trends follow by:


                        1. Changes in perspectives on English language Teaching and Learning such as many teaching are TESL, EIL, World Englishes, TESOL, TENOR, TSR, CLT, LIL, EFL etc.

                        2. Changes in Goals of English Language Teaching and Learning in 21st century skills such as a sense of social responsibility in students and should be treated as language users.

                        3. Changes in Teaching Approaches from traditional teaching to communicative approach not only use a teaching but various teaching or principles eclecticism has characteristics like these Maximize learning opportunities, Facilitate negotiated interaction, Encourage learner autonomy, Increase language awareness, Activate self - discovery, Contextualize language input, Integrate language skills, Ensure social relevance and Raise cultural consciousness     

                        4. Changes in Teaching Content, Curriculum Design, and Assessment is now interdisciplinary are CBLI (Content Based on language inatruction), CLIL (Content and Language integrated Learning) and ESP (English for special purposes of English business) so, content have to local and global.

                        5. Expanding the Dimension of Communicative Competence is Intercultural competence, students can communicate in various social or cultural.

                        6. Changes in views of an Effective English Educator because non native speaker out number native speaker.

                        7. Early Start in Learning English in Japan started til primary school, Egypt start grade 1, Vietnam start grade , Taiwan start grade 1, China grade 3  and Thailand grade 1 also.

                         8. Rapid Development and Integration of Information Technology in ELT. Teacher have to has knowledge about technology and teach students how to use? 

                         9. Changing Role and Increasing Responsibilities of Teachers the 7Cs i.e Critical thinking and problem solving, Creativity and innovation, Callaboration teamwork and leadership, Cross-cultural understanding, Communication information media literacy, Computing and ICT literacy and Career and learning self-reliance. The next topic that I learned 21st century.


                   21st century skill such as critical thinking, autonomy, lifelong learning etc. Next, subjects in 21st century such as Art, Mathmatics,Science, English language Reading, world languages, Geography,  Histry, Economic  and Civic. Next, theme 21st century are global awareness, civic litercy, health litercy, environment litercy. Next, 21st century learning skills are information, learning and innovation, technology skill, life and career skill and 4Cs etc.

     

                  I think this time don't have the things difficult because my friends and I divided the tasks and help to summarize.  


                  I think when teacher summarize in her power point, It made me understand each topics more.


                  I felt got knowledge and spirited to final exam and can explain or talk with other about that I learn this course.

Semester 3/2016 Seminar in ELT (week6)




             I learned about  CLT. Teacher assigned me to found the research or journal about communicative approach and then I found and summarize that first, CLT is approachto teach foreign or second language which emphasize communicative competence and interaction. Then the aim is develop procedure of four skill. second, characteristics of CLT are the learners can use language accurately and appropriately, teacher is a person who manages the environment and helps the learners to become autunomouse, The learners can use language and authentic materials, the activities have to share information, negotiation meaning and interaction. third, principles of CLT are learning understand meaning and show by speaking or writing, interaction between teacher and learner and learner and learner, teacher assign pair work and group work, the tasks suit with learner's level and they interest their title. Next, Role of the teachers are teacher is facilitator,  and guide and evaluate both accuracy and fluency. Moreover, teaching Method are teacher teach grammar in context such as tech about present c. teacher have to act or show picture so, the learner will get. Furthermore, Role of teacher teacher is facilitator and don't interupt while learner do the activities teacher should tell them after activities. In addition, Role of learners they do individual work more than group work. After that Advantages, learner practice speak because they like their title that they like, learner Then  disadvantage are learners don't understand native teacher but they understand non native speaker, It's emphasize fluency than accuracy. All of these show that learner can use communicative in their daily life by using activities such as dramas, role play, game etc. It's about the research of Stephen Bax Who disagree with CLT.



                     He disagree with CLT because many  countries don't  use CLT but the learners have good English such as Japan  Czech Republic Holland and Taiwan. Then CLT focus communication but don't focus content. Furthermore, CLT activities long time. The author think that learning not focus only communication but focus content and context also. Moreover. if we would like to use CLT in EFL we have to realize about context such as students needs, student styles /strategy, coursebook, local conditions, classroom culture, school culture, national culture, the time of teaching, class size and teacher style etc. In addition teacher summarize communicative approach again

                Goal of communicative to enable learners to develop communicative competence in order to use the target language. Next, there are 4 competence such as Grammatical/linguistic competence  Discourse competence Sociolinguistic /pragmatic competence and Strategic competence. Then classroom activities tasks about share information and negotiate meaning, activities problem-solving, role play, simulation, and games, pair and group work. Next, teacher role are facilitator, organize resource and guide, researcher, analyst, and counselor. Next, role of learner is centredness such as Enhancing learner autonomy, have responsibility, learner design language activities and both teacher and students assessment and evaluation. Finally, Constraints of CLT are focus on fluency than accuracy, learner and teacher role cultural appropriate ESL and ESL, students lack of target language, traditional teaching and learning cultures, lack of learning resource and class size.


                   The thing that I think difficult is organize time to read the research. I use long tome to read each article because I found meaning of the word.



      I think I try to practice to read and I can organize  time after.



                  I think when teacher summarize on power point it's easy to understand about CLT more than I read by myself.

Unit 5
ICT and English language teaching and learning

 I learned about CALL (Communicative and language learning), teacher gave a text and assign me to read and summarized that there are 3 points. First, integrative CALL focus on using multimedia computers and internet. After that developing teaching communicative more, that is Behavioristic CALL is repeat drill. Computer as a tutor, computer as a tool and computer as a speaker the answers but it's not communicative enough. Then they use communicative CALL focus forms more than the forms themselves, teacher tech grammar implicitly rather than explicitly etc. Moreover the Internet has two types such as The World Wide Web is if students want to know the things that they want to know they can search  or publish their information on The world Wide Web. Next, Computer Mediated Communication (CMC)  there two things such as " asynchronous " (not simultaneous) such as email etc. And " synchronous " (synchronous, real time) one - to - one communication and one - to many communication such as messenger etc. Therefore teacher told me about benefits of using Web 2.0, it's more colorful, sound and video to students inspiration.



In addition, Teacher told me to found the applications that help to learn English language. I found that there are many applications that teachers help to learn, start with Twitter.















                 Twitter  is an online news and social networking service where users post and interact with messages, "tweets", restricted to 140 charactersRegistered users can post tweets, but those who are unregistered can only read them. Users access Twitter through its website interface, SMS or a mobile device app. Twitter Inc. is based in San FranciscoCaliforniaUnited States, and has more than 25 offices around the world. Teacher Pamela Deloatch assign tasks by using twitter and think that twitter useful for students because they can contract with foreign friends and they practice reading and writing English because twitter use only English language etc. Next, "Youtube"

 

  YouTube is an American video-sharing website headquartered in San Bruno, California. The service was created by three former PayPal employees – Chad HurleySteve Chen, and Jawed Karim – in February 2005. Google bought the site in November 2006 for US$1.65 billion; YouTube now operates as one of Google's subsidiaries.  Teacher Kristen Hicks tough his syudent by using Video on youtube and found that students more fun and assign the tasks by uploading students' video on youtube and teacher, friends or other can comments under their video. Therefore, teacher always asign students to watch others video especially native speakers' vedeo to practice listening skill. Youtube very motivate students because it has both pictures and sounds. Next,"Email"



Electronic mail (email) is create by Ashwin,Luqman,Ganesh,Hafiz and Sanjay. Email is a method of exchanging messages between people using electronics. Email first entered substantial use in the 1804s and by the mid-1970s had taken the form now recognized as email. Email operates across computer networks, which today is primarily the Internet. Some early email systems required the author and the recipient to both be online at the same time, in common with instant messaging. Today's email systems are based on a store-and-forward model. Email servers accept, forward, deliver, and store messages. Neither the users nor their computers are required to be online simultaneously; they need to connect only briefly, typically to a mail server or a webmail interface, for as long as it takes to send or receive messages. Teacher James M. Hassett assign the tasks and gave students to sent by Email and teacher can speak with student outright if they online and sent information if anther online he/she will see. Next, "Blogger"




Blogger is a blog-publishing service that allows multi-user blogs with time-stamped entries. It was developed by Pyra Labs, which was bought by Google in 2003. Generally, the blogs are hosted by Google at a subdomain of blogspot.com. Blogs can also be hosted in the registered custom domain of the blogger (like www.example.com). A user can have up to 100 blogs per account. Teacher Macie Hall assign students to write their idea in their blogger and teacher found that blogger help to develop students' writing, students can discuss outside classroom and motivate students because they can decorate their blog. And the last, "Facebook"



          Facebook is an American for-profit corporation and an online social media and social networking service based in Menlo Park, California. The Facebook website was launched on February 4, 2004, by Mark Zuckerberg, along with fellow Harvard College students and roommates, Eduardo SaverinAndrew McCollumDustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes. Miss Yuriya told about advantage of facebook in learning English language that students can speak in facebook don't shy, students have long time before post each comments, students can check grammar before post, the sentences in facebook not good but students can remember the words, students can join the groups that they interest if they interest they will  attend to practice English, Students have many native speaker and chance to practice English, Facebook make students to interact others, Facebook motivate students to learn language, Students can join Enflish groups to practice correct English and students know about idium becouse people always post.


          I think the article about Computer and language learning, it's very difficult for me til I learn this summer. I don't know why? but I can't to find any main idea and not only me but my friend also, she can't to understand like me.



          I edited by telling teacher that I can't to understand and beg her to explain and help me to understand and she help me to get more and can write this blog.


          I think when I find the applications that help to learn it,s easy for me because I can't find the article that I understand and I like. Then I can describe that to teacher.


          Although, something it's hard but I felt fun, excited and understand more than studied in large classroom.

Unit 4

Problems of English Language Teaching


            Teacher assigned me to find the researches about Problems of English Language Teaching both of EFL and ESL context. Then I explained the problems are The different level learners so, it's difficult that teacher teach, Teacher don't have ability to teach, The learners don't have basic of English language, The learners don't have confident, The contents inappropriate, The learners lack of motivation to study, The learners don't have the strategic to study, Lack of support in study, The learners don't have chance to speak with native speaker, The access and evaluate not good, The learners can't to use English out side classroom because teacher don't teach communication, The problems of writing skills, Grammar, and The teacher lack of use materials and technology.

         After that teacher asked that how to solve the problems  if I will be a teacher in the near future? 





                 I answered that teacher should set activities or give tasks that appropriate with learners' level and when set groups have clever medium weak students, training teacher about ability of language, technology, and materials, Moreover, teachers can improve their self. In addition, teacher have to teach till beginning or basic of English language, Teacher always set speaking activity, don't scold when they wrong and tell their friends don't badinage if they wrong too. Furthermore, teachers have to set several activities many context not only own context but native context also. Next, teacher should use many materials such as song game etc to motivate learners' interest, Teachers have to suggest learners how to use strategy or which strategy learning that they can use. Teacher can set the activities out side classroom such as tourist to students can speak with native speaker or foreigners. Finally, teacher have to base on curriculum that students can do and evaluate from knowledge or exam and performance.


             Next, teacher assign me to find about Teaching and Learning English that different between EFL and ESL context.

               Then I founded that teachers in ESL have knowledge and teach better than teachers in EFL Brown (2007) because teachers in ESL are native speaker have knowledge  and teach better than teachers in EFL which finding the native speaker to teach in EFL context it's difficult. Then teachers in ESL can teach learners in ESL easier than learners in EFL William (2006) because the learners in ESL have basic of English language but the learners in EFL don't have basic of English language so, teacher have to teach till the beginning or basic such as greeting and introduce them self. In addition, the learners in ESL can use English language but learners in EFL can't to use English language Schoepp (2011) when the learners are out side classroom ESL learners can speak English but ESL learners can't to speak. Moreover, The most of learners in ESL study to work but EFL learners study to exam or entrance to the university Dang (2006) ESL learners study to work and specific English each work but EFL learners study English to exam so, the study focus on grammar effect to learners can't communicate. Furthermore, learners in ESL are confident more than EFL learners Supaporn (2007) although ESL learners several  nation and different accent but the audience can understand but in EFL context especially Thai learners when some good accent or strange accent the others will laugh or badinage so, speakers don't have confident, fear and shy to speak English. Next, the classroom of EFL larger than ESL classroom Ratana (2007) because EFL less teachers so, they have to teach 40-50 learners but ESL many native teacher and efficacy teacher enough so, they teach 30 learners and control easily.


            I found that the difficult is when I searched the article I have to search good article or dependable article it's hard to find because the most are blog more than article.


             I will edit my problem by search specific words, sentences or use " research " front of the sentences that I search so, I will meet the article that I want.


             I think when I searched the article by myself it's easier than teacher found or gave me because I can find the article that I like or understand so, I can explained it.


             I feel happy and understand this topic and understand more in classroom that have many friends.

Unit 2-3

Contexts of English language teaching and learning and Factors affecting English Language Teaching and Learning

           Last week I studied Unit 4 finish yet so, today I study continue about English Language Teaching and Education in Thailand: A decade of change follow by:

           The Change in the National University Entrance Examination such as the factor contribute teaching in secondary schools is examination entrance to University, this reason that students provide time to tutorials. Further more examinations have both multiple choice and writing for checking student's thinking skills and explore students' idea etc. In addition, student have to learned 4 subjects are foundation course and English for specific by 3 periods per week and each period 50-70 minutes. Next, Goals and Standards are The Commission on Higher Education (CHE) think that use English teaching both government and private university. Moreover, The learners have to learn 12 credits or 4 course for English foundation I and II cover improvement of social language which learners have to speak and communicate in each context both inside and outside classroom by using learning strategies to develop their communication and understand different culture. Another academic language have to access and process the information then analyze that information by speaking or writing, develop critical thinking skill and promote life long learning. All of this, shown that tertiary level not focus only use English communicative but focus on developing learning strategies also. Then tertiary has exit examination to encourage students to see that English is very important. Next, Task based learning was used in some schools and university because it's help students to develop their communicative and use language in their task such as doing brochure that students have to acquire the information and use English language in their task. Further more task and project integrated such as science culture and social science for encouraging their own learning that is foundation of Learners centred. 

                Next, Self Access Learning spread in secondary school and tertiary level. In addition,  students can choose materials with suit their level, teachers give point to them if they finished their task, and students can evaluate by themself. Next, Promotion of E-Learning learners have to use technology so, CLT is important with education. Next, International schools in Thailand some schools have EP classroom and exchange students aboard. In 2007 Thailand has 63 International schools. Next, English language teaching in Neighbouring Countries such as Lao, Vietnam, and Cambodia are the same English as a Foreign language. In Lao students study 3-4 hours per week, has classroom large size about 40-50 persons, teacher centred. In Vietnam teaching not different Lao and Cambodia start English language in grade 6. However English Language is very important and colleges learn about 16 credits but some teachers still traditional teaching or translation so, Vietnam and Combodia training teachers but teachers in Thailand try to teach by students centred.


                 Next. I learned about Factors Affecting 

English Language Teaching and Learning

Teaching and Learning.


            First, Grammar-Driven Teaching Method. Teacher focussed on Grammar because he/she thought it's the most important with learners. Although  they knew rules of grammar but they can't to communicate so, teacher have to focus communication more than grammar.

                                                                                                                                                                  
                           

   Second, Unreasonable Time Management. Teacher didn't tell the learner about the times when they did the task then learners didn't finish their task so, teacher have to identify the times clear. 



       Third, Unclear Instruction. Teacher's instruction unclear, it's made the learners didn't understand in the tasks or did wrong! teacher have to tell or explain clear before start task.

       Further more, Large class size. There are 40-50 learners per class, so it's difficult to did activities. Actually, a teacher teach learners about 30 person.

       Then Teachers' Limited Ability in classroom Organization. Teachers couldn't control the class and didn't use game and song if they use students will active when they learn.

        Next, Unequal Students Levels. Learners have different background knowledge, attitude and quiet or shy. It's difficult to teach.

        Moreover, Not Much Investment for Lesson Preparation. Teachers didn't prepared the lesson before started because they didn't have the time, they taught and another work for getting more money thus they taught follow by book students didn't practice communicative.

        Another, Teachers' Limited Use of Teaching Aids and Technology. Teachers didn't use over-head, although this university has over-head whole class but teacher couldn't use it.

           Finally, Learners Role Was Not Estimated Well. However, teachers centred more than learners because if they spoke Vietnamese, they can did but they not confident if they spoke English.

           All of this, can develop follow by: reduce learners have 30 person per a class, fix the tests that appropriate with learners, develop several teaching about communicative, produce the materials, learners have to role more and the leaders of university have to support.


            I thinks the article Factor Affecting English Language Teaching and Learning in Higher Education easy for me because I can translate and understand the aims of author.


            I thinks times to read all article difficult 

for me because I have to search a lot of wards 

that I don't know and tried to translate or 

summarize as a result I would like along time 

for did that likewise I should  to do in times limit.  


           I have to try and improve myself if I know vocabulary so, I don't waste time to finding and I can do finish in time.

           I felt happy and active when I learned and I think if every the researches same this I will understand and happy every weeks.

Unit 1
Course introduction
Global English

                

               I learned about 5 topics first, EFL (English as a foreign language) teaching English language for foreign language, ESL (English as a second language) teaching English language to students who are use second English, EIL (English as a inter language) teach in English language to inter students  differ culture and differ nation teaching EIL strive to use inter language and ELF (English as a lingua fanga) is middle language to communicate with people different language. Second, it's about role of English  in global,Asian and Thai involve travel, advertise, education, trade and airline etc. Third the three circles of English by Kachru 


The inner circle is the countries use English is mother tongue such as United kingdom, United state, Newzealand and Canada etc. The outer circle is the countries use second language or official language such as Philippins, Malasia, India and Nigeria etc these countries have been colonized of England so, people in these countries can use English. And The expanding circle is the countries use English for foreign language or middle language such as China, Russia, Japan, Korea, Egypt, Indonesia and Thailand etc. Forth, Different between EFL and ESL i.e. people who take English as a second language learn faster than people who take English as a foreign language because people who take English as a second language  are at least able to read and write a little bit of English. On the other hand, people who take English as a foreign language, know neither write nor read in English, For the teachers ESL they are native speaker use English all subject so, they have knowledge more than EFL teacher use English only English subject, For student ESL they can use English language better than  EFL students because ESL students they use English in their daily life but EFL students use English only their classroom, and the last topic is world Englishes from David Crystal's video 

             1. English spread around the world so, we have to know English language and It make us yo know about culture or anything in each countries. 2. If we know English language we can understand the same way. 3. Although most of countries use English is middle language but accent in each countries not the same such as "Robot" in South Africa refer to "traffic light" , "chaos" in England refer to "chaotic railway or traffic railway" , all of these became to varieties of English i.e. native varieties is British, America, Australian English, the countries adapt English became their language  are India English, Singaporean English and African English etc.

             Finally, we have to know inner circle is standard but we have to know culture context and varieties of English also. For my classroom in the near future I can assign project work such as travel because my students have to do itinerary search information the place that that they'll go. When they search information in English they can use English outer the classroom and they will know and have target or reason to use English for what?


             I think the first class that I studied face to face with teacher nothing is easy.

             I think everything so hard for me such as the time vocabulary and idea I can't to adjust myself.

             I'll try to practice to read  deal the time and attempt to study, I think I can do it but it have to use the time

             Although I think anything is hard for me but I felt fun excited  and challenge for me.

Semester 3/2016 Seminar in ELT (week2)

Unit 2-3

                I Learned about 2 topics are The Role of English Language Education in Asian Context and English Language Teaching and education in Thailand: A decade of change. I started with discussion The Roles of English Education in Asian context. 


                 This article described 3 points are the research about English Education from 18th century and development of English in Asian, Described about improvement and characteristics of English language, and focussing on the important of English language education in the future in each Asian countries. Next, I learned Historical of Philippine.


               The Philipines has  people speak English too much the third in the world, use English Language in their daily life and all organization, US government influenced of Filipinos life in 1900 focus only English Language teaching but 1974 government allowed to use bilingual Education both of English Language and filipno because  the research found that L1 help to learn or understand L2. Next, The Historical of Hong Kong.

           The first Opium War between Britain and China in 1842, after war affluent people sent their children to learn aboard and poorer people sent their children to learn bilingual education. In addition most of Hong Kong teacher didn't accept English language. Next, the historical of China English.

 

               English language use only trade and use as tool to develop international diplomacy. After Opium War English language is high official but reason of political didn't support English language  after that English popular again case China is number of Russia and  trade with English  so, English is tool for national modernization and development. Next, the historical of Malaysia English.

                  Malaysia has been colonize of British so, English is important for Malaysia and still use in the current. Next, Historical of Taiwan English.

                       In 2001 Ministry Education ordered students grade 5-6 to studied English and 2005 ordered students grade 3 to studied English too. Next, Japan English.

                  In the Taisho era Ministry Education opposition that English is so boring and useless but after World War 2 English is boom again by students studied once a week. After that add 4 per week. Next, Korea English.

                      In the Yi Dynasty period focus the young men to learn English for developing their country but Japan didn't support they have to learn Japanese. After that Korea independent from Japan the students studied by GTM method focus on ability and understanding of variety culture in each countries.Further more in 1997 students learned English language everyday. from the above mention present that teacher and students knew about the important  of ability communication both inside and outside classroom in their real life.


                        The role  of English language Education in Asian context divided in to tree parts i.e.  accept the important of native-speaker, focus on communicative bi-directionability and non native speaker teacher had to knowledge.



                  English language teacher: Non native speaker   the most important qualifiaction for teaching position is training and experience in teaching and able to apply differect stategies and create innovative and interest activities. Sometimes NNSE better than NSE. Didn't just knew only language but have to knew social also.

                            I think this article has vocabulary didn't difficult , it's present that easy for me and made me understand more.


                                 I think translation very difficult for me because I translate dis correct etc.
                                 I can solve my difficult by practice to translate and  use the time.
                                 Today I felt excited and fun when  teacher encorage me to say.
