Semester 3/2016 Seminar in ELT (week2)

Unit 2-3

                I Learned about 2 topics are The Role of English Language Education in Asian Context and English Language Teaching and education in Thailand: A decade of change. I started with discussion The Roles of English Education in Asian context. 


                 This article described 3 points are the research about English Education from 18th century and development of English in Asian, Described about improvement and characteristics of English language, and focussing on the important of English language education in the future in each Asian countries. Next, I learned Historical of Philippine.


               The Philipines has  people speak English too much the third in the world, use English Language in their daily life and all organization, US government influenced of Filipinos life in 1900 focus only English Language teaching but 1974 government allowed to use bilingual Education both of English Language and filipno because  the research found that L1 help to learn or understand L2. Next, The Historical of Hong Kong.

           The first Opium War between Britain and China in 1842, after war affluent people sent their children to learn aboard and poorer people sent their children to learn bilingual education. In addition most of Hong Kong teacher didn't accept English language. Next, the historical of China English.

 

               English language use only trade and use as tool to develop international diplomacy. After Opium War English language is high official but reason of political didn't support English language  after that English popular again case China is number of Russia and  trade with English  so, English is tool for national modernization and development. Next, the historical of Malaysia English.

                  Malaysia has been colonize of British so, English is important for Malaysia and still use in the current. Next, Historical of Taiwan English.

                       In 2001 Ministry Education ordered students grade 5-6 to studied English and 2005 ordered students grade 3 to studied English too. Next, Japan English.

                  In the Taisho era Ministry Education opposition that English is so boring and useless but after World War 2 English is boom again by students studied once a week. After that add 4 per week. Next, Korea English.

                      In the Yi Dynasty period focus the young men to learn English for developing their country but Japan didn't support they have to learn Japanese. After that Korea independent from Japan the students studied by GTM method focus on ability and understanding of variety culture in each countries.Further more in 1997 students learned English language everyday. from the above mention present that teacher and students knew about the important  of ability communication both inside and outside classroom in their real life.


                        The role  of English language Education in Asian context divided in to tree parts i.e.  accept the important of native-speaker, focus on communicative bi-directionability and non native speaker teacher had to knowledge.



                  English language teacher: Non native speaker   the most important qualifiaction for teaching position is training and experience in teaching and able to apply differect stategies and create innovative and interest activities. Sometimes NNSE better than NSE. Didn't just knew only language but have to knew social also.

                            I think this article has vocabulary didn't difficult , it's present that easy for me and made me understand more.


                                 I think translation very difficult for me because I translate dis correct etc.
                                 I can solve my difficult by practice to translate and  use the time.
                                 Today I felt excited and fun when  teacher encorage me to say.
